PING G425 Irons

We finalize PING week with a look at the new PING G425 irons. The G series from PING in my opinion is the gold standard when we discuss game improvement irons. Hearing a new release in the G series irons is always exciting.

Change your Tune!

As I talked about in the G425 Crossover article yesterday, sound is the most important aspect of feel. PING is known for using stainless steel in their irons and the G425 is no different. The 17-4 stainless they use can produce a high pitched sound that makes the club seem harsher than they actually are. PING throughout time has been adding badges to help reduce that sound and make the club feel a little more solid. PING has engineered the club to contain a 54% increase in the size of the badge. This will reduce vibration as well as mute the sound. That means a softer feeling club which is something almost everyone wants.

Thin is in!

With game improvement clubs the people who typically buy them are in the search for more distance. The best way to do that is by increasing ball speed. Well PING has accomplished this by thinning the face by an astonishing 22%. Its not everyday you see a company reducing the face thickness by that large amount. It seems PING was able to do this and if it actually increases ball speeds like it should the G425 line up will once again be one of the most bought game improvement clubs.

Final Thoughts

Overall I think the club will be a big winner for PING. The thinning of the face could be a HUGE win for PING. PING has never been known as a big distance company but it seems PING is really going to move the needle with the thin faces. IT could be a big step forward for PING.
